Not only do the places we visit produce quality wines but they also give their guests a great experience, something that is often overlooked.

This tour offers:

- a goats cheese dairy to impress (plus some cute goats)

- phenomenal gin, vodka & limoncello

- a mix of both red & white wine to try

- amazing cider

- a great beer selection

- boutique smaller producers

- a casual shared lunch in a picturesque setting

TOUR ITINERARY

The Peninsula is more than just a great wine producing region. There are so many treasures to uncover.

On a typical day out you would visit:

10.00am Main Ridge Dairy - cheese tasting

Main Ridge Dairy is your first stop of the morning. Take a few minutes to stretch your legs after the bus ride with a short stroll around the property. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for some of the goats and if the time is right (from the start of October) you will often see loads of little baby goats running around the paddocks.

Main Ridge is a specialty goats cheese dairy with a true paddock to plate experience. You will get to sample 8-10 cheeses from their award winning range which include a fresh delicate curd, a gooey and decadent white mould, an aged table cheese with a nutty sweet flavour and the very hard to resist Marinated Feta.

For anyone not already sold on goats cheese trust us you will leave this place truly converted, we speak from experience.

*If your feeling thirsty you can upgrade the cheese tasting to include either a hot drink (tea, coffee or hot chocolate) or a glass of wine for an additional fee.

Check out a review of the dairy here

11.00am Bass & Flinders Distillery - gin, vodka & limoncello tasting

After a short 10 minute drive you will arrive at your next stop Bass & Flinders Distillery. We all know that gin is totally the 'in thing' at the moment and taking the country by storm with so many producers bursting into the market. These guys have been in the game a little while now been one of the first boutique producers in Victoria.

What's different about these gins is that they are 'grape based' and triple distilled rather than made with traditional grain. In addition to gin they have also added vodka, grappa and limoncello to their range and more recently Ochre an aged brandy. There is certainly something for everyone at this stop.ʉ۬

A visit to the distillery is a unique experience, as it provides a rare insight into the engine room of Bass & Flinders. The refurbished cellar door combines modern architectural style with a notable barrel room.

*Upgrade your tasting to include their premium range which includes an aged brandy & limited addition gins for an additional fee

12.00pm Tucks Ridge – lunch

We head just down the road to pretty as a picture, Tucks Ridge where you will settle in for a tasting and lunch. Recently taken over by the team from Montalto the winery and restaurant have since taken on a new lease of life. Here you will sit down to enjoy a casual sharing meal with your newest friends while taking in one of the Peninsula most photographed views.

Lunch is a casual affair with their Tuck in Fried Chicken plates which include; Buttermilk fried free range chicken thigh, Free range chicken wings, tikka spice salt, Raw slaw of wombok, onion, carrot, lemon dressing, Spiced chickpeas, shallot & coconut, Salad of green beans & mustard seeds, Fries, Garden salt, Cucumber pickles, Jalapeno mayo & Ranch dressing. (Vegetarian plates also available) Choose a glass of your favourite drop to enjoy with your lunch.

2.00pm Old Apple Shed – wine & cider tasting

After a leisurely drive you will arrive to a warm and friendly welcome from Old Apple Shed. This stop is often a crowd favourite due to its simple charm and down to earth vibe.

With their epic wine list the tasting can be tailored to you as they have a big range of sparkling, red, white and sweet wines. This precedes the grand finale, a show stopping selection of ciders that will blow your mind they are that good. Try apple, pear, strawberry, passionfruit and ginger beer.

They have a great outdoor area so tastings can be taken outside if the weather's nice. If not you can keep warm inside the old converted farmhouse.

3.15pm Red Hill Brewery - pint or tasting paddle

To round out a fun filled day head 15 minutes back into the heart of the region to Red Hill Brewery. The place is lively but intimate at the same time. With such a fabulous atmosphere it is a great place to finish up the afternoon.

This is one of the most well known breweries in the area with a number of awards to their name. Their distinctively European-inspired brews are built on 4 core offerings that are available all across the year; Golden Ale, Pilsner, Wheat Beer, and Scotch Ale. They also often have seasonal and limited releases if your interested in something different.

Enjoy a tasting paddle of 4 different beers or a pint of your choice as you sit back and take in your surrounds with both indoor and outdoor seating available.

*Venues subject to availability

Every now and then availability at some of the wineries outlined above is limited so we have a number of great alternatives that we often include on some of our private tours. A couple of our favourites below but feel free to check out our website for a list of others here. We will try and let you know when the itineraries are shuffled wherever possible.

Rahona Valley – wine tasting

Rahona Valley which is a true hidden gem of the Peninsula. The vineyard is set in a secluded valley on a steep north-facing slope which is honestly magnificent and unlike any other vineyard in the region. As you descend on the cellar door you will feel like you are amongst the tree tops.

The wines here are unexpectedly brilliant. You will be taken through a comprehensive list which often includes some bubbles. The cellar door has a fabulous outdoor (and indoor pending weather) setting on the newly built deck with an open fire pit during the cooler months and umbrellas for shade for the warmer weather, a perfect place to spend the afternoon.

The place is a little bit magical and so are the wines.

Quealy Winemakers – wine tasting

Visit Kathleen Quealy the ‘Queen of Gris’ on your first stop of the morning. Kathleen is one of the most well-known winemakers on the Peninsula and was the first person to plant Pinot Gris/Grigio in Australia. Here you can expect the unexpected as every visit is a unique experience.

Tastings take place in the middle of their working winery. It’s rustic, authentic and a truly laid back experience.

On display are a large selection of whites, reds (including some of the best Pinot Noir you will taste) and sweet wine, with a tilt to Italian varieties. Their wines are not only incredible but also great value, so don’t expect to walk away empty handed.

On a typical day out you would visit:

10.45am Ocean Eight – wine & barrel tasting + glass of bubbles

You will start off the day’s stellar line up at Ocean Eight, one of our favourite wineries on the peninsula. Slightly off the beaten track you will instantly be impressed as you pull into their tree-line driveway and take in their beautiful colonial-style homestead not to mention breathtaking views.

Ocean Eight deliver an impressive list of quality wines which include an award-winning Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and 2 varieties of Pinot Noir plus a small batch sparkling.

The tasting will take place amongst the ageing wine in their beautiful underground barrel room. You will have an opportunity to experience a barrel tasting of some of the wines that have not yet been released whilst sipping away on a glass of sparkling.

12.00pm Rare Hare @ Willow Creek - lunch & wine tasting

After a pretty 15 minute drive you will reach your second stop, Rare Hare. There is something truly special about this place that is recognisable from the moment you arrive. Also home to the luxury Jackalope hotel this place is unique and striking, combining the beauty of the Willow Creek Vineyard with amazing architecture and design.

You can expect to settle in for a ‘feed me’ style sharing lunch and tasting with your newest friends while taking in the picturesque surrounds and stylish fit-out.

Lunch is a selection of share plates that will leave you suitably impressed which you can enjoy with a glass of wine. Each dish is presented beautifully and showcases estate grown and locally supplied produce wherever possible. The menu changes seasonally but some of the more recent standouts include, stracciacella with soured cucumbers, roasted carrots with whipped feta, beef brisket, salmon and the sardines on toast (who would have thought!) You will come away feeling happy and satisfied and ready to take on the afternoon.

After lunch, time permitting, head across to the cellar door for a tasting where you will be shown through a list of both Rare Hare and Willow Creek wines. Try some of the regions regulars with estate grown Chardonnay and Pinot Noir but also keep an eye out for the Rare Hare White, a Pinot Gris Sauvignon Blanc blend for something a little different.

2.00pm Paradigm Hill - wine tasting & vineyard tour

Have you ever wanted to fly first class? Well this might just be the next best thing and here is the reason why.

A little bit of trivia, in 2013 the Paradigm Hill L’ami Sage Pinot Noir was added to the wine list on Qantas First Class. This is no mean feat for a winery of such small production and testament to owners George and Ruth who are passionate about what they do.

The wines produced by Paradigm Hill are elegant and complex and include a Pinot Gris, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Shiraz but what’s just as impressive as the wine is that they are also committed to zero carbon footprint and environmental sustainability.

A visit to Paradigm Hill is an experience that will draw you into the winemaking process of a premium Peninsula producer and the team at Paradigm Hill are well equipped to tell you all about what makes their wines so great. So just remember when the L’ami Sage comes round for tasting remember to close your eyes and imagine you’re flying high.

3.15pm Rahona Valley – wine tasting & cheese board

It’s just a short 5 minute drive to the final stop where you will arrive at Rahona Valley which is a true hidden gem of the Peninsula. As you descend on the cellar door you will feel like you are amongst the tree tops.

The wines here are unexpectedly brilliant. You will be taken through a comprehensive list which often includes at least one vertical tasting and some bubbles. Cheese boards will be served alongside the tasting to compliment this exciting line up.

The place is a little bit magical and so are the wines and the perfect way to end the day.

Kerri Greens would have to be considered the coolest kid on the block. As you wind your way around this uniquely shaped cellar door you instantly know you are in for something a little bit special and a little bit left of centre.
